Project Challenges and Outcomes
Challenges
The University of Pittsburgh wanted to completely renovate the men’s and women’s basketball suites in the Petersen Events Center to increase the University’s competitive edge and recruit top athletic talent. The project had to avoid disrupting the 2018 to 2019 basketball seasons.
Outcomes
The three-phase project allowed Pitt’s basketball teams and coaches to have an uninterrupted 2018 to 2019 basketball season. Phase One and Phase Two included renovating the existing men’s and women’s basketball suites. The basketball suite renovations included updating the team lounges, corridor to the practice gym, locker room media walls, and locker room flooring. The lounge areas have a new layout with new finishes, furniture, A/V functions, and a reimagined kitchenette with a nutrition bar. The new suites have a more team-centered focus and lounge feel. Phase Three includes renovations to the coaching and administration suites, arrival hall, locker room wet areas, and team media and meeting spaces.
The spaces are outfitted with Pitt’s new brand colors and graphics and serve players, administrative staff, and coaches. The basketball suites competitively align the University with other Division I schools looking to recruit basketball players.
